Finishing and mounting hardware
The print is the easy half. Most banner failures are finishing failures, so we specify the finish against the actual mounting.
Banners rarely fail because the ink failed. They fail at the edge: a grommet pulls through, a hem lets go, a rope saws through an unreinforced corner. So the finishing conversation is the one worth having, and it takes about a minute.
We hem all four sides as standard, reinforce corners where the load lands, and set grommets into the hem rather than through bare material. For heavier spans we add D-rings or webbing. For a banner tensioned into a frame we add a rope in the hem or a silicone bead depending on the frame. For a solid vinyl banner in a moderately exposed spot we can cut wind slits, though we will usually steer you to mesh instead.
We also supply the bungees, zip ties and tensioners, because a banner delivered without them means somebody drives to a hardware store on install morning and improvises, and improvised fixings are what tear banners.
Frequently asked questions
- Do wind slits actually work?
- They reduce load rather than solve it, and they cut into the artwork. On a genuinely exposed site mesh is the better answer. We use slits where mesh is ruled out and the exposure is moderate.
- Do you include the fixings?
- We can, and you should ask for them. Bungees, ties and tensioners cost little and they stop the install turning into an improvisation with whatever is in the van.
