Vinyl banners
The default outdoor banner: heavyweight scrim vinyl, printed edge to edge, welded or sewn hems and grommets on the spacing the install needs.
Scrim vinyl is the workhorse because it does two things at once: it holds saturated colour and it takes abuse. The scrim is a woven mesh laminated between vinyl layers, which is what stops a grommet from tearing out the first time the wind loads it.
Finishing is where banners are actually won or lost. A raw printed edge will fray and a grommet punched straight through unreinforced material will pull. We hem the perimeter and set grommets into the hem, spaced for the span rather than at a fixed interval, closer together on a long horizontal run and at the corners where load concentrates.
Size is limited by the roll width and by how you intend to hang it, not by the press. We will ask where it is going and how it is being fixed before we quote, because the answer changes the finish, and a banner finished for the wrong mounting is a banner that fails early.
Frequently asked questions
- How far apart should the grommets be?
- It depends on the span and the exposure, not on a rule of thumb. Long horizontal runs and windy locations need them closer, and corners always take extra. Tell us the size and where it hangs and we will set the spacing.
- Single or double sided?
- If it is read from one direction, single sided with a blockout layer is usually enough. If it hangs free and is approached from both sides, we build it double sided so the reverse is not a mirror image showing through.
